About
One object, sold honestly
ADW sells one object: a replica of the skull-shaped whistles excavated at the temple of Ehécatl in Tlatelolco, Mexico City, where they lay with a sacrificed man.
The name comes from the whistle itself. It asks for a long, slow breath, the kind you would not waste, and it gives back a scream.
What we sell, and what we do not claim
What you receive is a replica, about 7 cm tall (7.3 x 4.8 x 5.3 cm). It is not an excavated artifact, and we do not pretend it is.
We only repeat what can be checked: the Tlatelolco find (excavated in the late 1980s, according to the 2024 study), and the 2024 University of Zurich study in which listeners judged the sound of these skull whistles frightening (Frühholz and colleagues, Communications Psychology). The sound you can play on this site is a recording of an Aztec death whistle shared by the Aztec Death Whistle channel, not a recording of our replica, and it says so.
