The Aztec Death Whistle
A replica of the skull whistle found with a sacrificed man at the temple of Ehécatl in Tlatelolco, Mexico City. In 2024, listeners in a University of Zurich study judged their sound frightening.
Keep it out of sight
It works best when nobody has seen it. Keep it in a pocket. Wait for a quiet moment on the porch, or the end of a story told with the lights off.
Then breathe. Slowly. The sound does not come from where people expect it.
